EHBOkits

EHBOkits are portable collections of supplies designed to provide basic first aid during injuries or sudden illness. The term EHBO comes from Dutch and stands for Eerste Hulp Bij Ongevallen; EHBOkits are used in Dutch-speaking regions as well as internationally under the general concept of first aid kits. They are commonly found in homes, workplaces, schools, vehicles, public buildings, and during travel.

Contents of EHBOkits vary by size and purpose, but most kits include items for wound care, eye and skin decontamination, and basic care. Typical components are assorted bandages and gauze pads, adhesive tape, sterile dressings, antiseptic wipes, alcohol pads, disposable gloves, scissors and tweezers, and a CPR barrier device. Some kits may also include a reflective strip, cold or heat packs, splints, triangular bandages, and a basic first aid manual. Medicines are not universal and many kits omit them; individuals can add personal medications where appropriate.

EHBOkits come in different formats such as wall-mounted cabinets, portable boxes, or soft pouches. Special-purpose kits exist for homes, vehicles, workplaces, schools, or outdoor activities; automotive kits may include items tailored to road-related injuries. Accessibility, visibility, and clear labeling are important to ensure quick use.
