Däckövervakning

Däckövervakning, often referred to as Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in English, is a crucial automotive safety feature designed to alert drivers to a significant loss of tire pressure in one or more tires. A properly inflated tire is essential for safe driving, optimal fuel efficiency, and even tire longevity. Underinflated tires can lead to poor handling, increased braking distances, and a higher risk of blowouts. Overinflated tires can result in a harsher ride, uneven wear, and reduced traction.

There are two main types of däckövervakning systems. Direct systems use pressure sensors mounted inside each wheel, which transmit real-time pressure data to the vehicle's central computer. These systems are generally more accurate and can detect pressure loss in individual tires quickly. Indirect systems, on the other hand, do not use dedicated pressure sensors. Instead, they infer tire pressure by monitoring the rotational speed of each wheel. If one tire is significantly underinflated, it will spin faster than the others, and the system will trigger an alert. Indirect systems are typically less expensive to manufacture but may be slower to detect pressure loss and less precise in identifying which tire is affected.

When a däckövervakning system detects a problem, it typically illuminates a warning light on the dashboard, often a stylized tire with an exclamation mark inside. Drivers should not ignore this warning and should check their tire pressures promptly. Adjusting tire pressure to the manufacturer's recommended levels, usually found on a sticker inside the driver's side doorjamb or in the owner's manual, is essential. Regular visual inspection of tires and periodic manual pressure checks remain important complementary practices to ensure tire safety.
