Dubbeltkopplingslådor, often referred to as dual-clutch transmissions (DCTs), are a type of automatic transmission system used in vehicles. Unlike traditional automatic transmissions that use a torque converter, DCTs utilize two separate clutches to manage gear changes. One clutch typically controls the odd-numbered gears (1, 3, 5, etc.) and the other controls the even-numbered gears (2, 4, 6, etc.). This dual-clutch setup allows the transmission to pre-select the next gear while the current gear is still engaged. When a shift is required, one clutch disengages simultaneously as the other engages, resulting in very rapid and smooth gear changes. This seamless transition contributes to improved fuel efficiency and a more responsive driving experience compared to older automatic transmission designs. DCTs can be found in a wide range of vehicles, from performance-oriented sports cars to everyday sedans and SUVs. They are known for offering a blend of the convenience of an automatic transmission with some of the efficiency and performance characteristics typically associated with manual transmissions.
