Drúedain

The Drúedain, also known as the Woses, were a reclusive people of Middle-earth, appearing in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. They were distinct from the Elves, Men, and Dwarves, and their origins were ancient, predating the awakening of the other races. The Drúedain were known for their physical distinctiveness, possessing swarthy complexions, dark hair, and keen eyesight, particularly in dim light. They lived in small, scattered communities, primarily in the wild, untamed regions of Middle-earth.

Their way of life was deeply connected to nature. They were skilled hunters and trackers, possessing an intimate knowledge of the forests and lands they inhabited. They had a unique relationship with the beasts of the wild, and it was said that animals did not fear them. Despite their reclusive nature, the Drúedain occasionally interacted with other peoples, most notably in their alliance with the Elves of Doriath and later with the people of Rohan. They were fiercely independent and wary of outsiders, but their loyalty, once earned, was unwavering.

The Drúedain played a significant, though often overlooked, role in the history of Middle-earth. During the First Age, they aided the Elves against Morgoth's forces. Later, in the Third Age, a band of Drúedain, led by Ghan-buri-Ghan, famously guided the Army of Rohan through the Druadan Forest to reach the Pelennor Fields in time to aid Gondor in battle. This act of assistance was crucial in the victory against Sauron's forces. Their legacy is one of guardianship of the wild and quiet strength in the face of great darkness.
