Woses

Woses are a fictional race of beings appearing in the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, notably in The Lord of the Rings. They are depicted as large, hairy, ape-like creatures, often described as brutish and primitive. Their origins are mysterious, with theories suggesting they might be a corrupted or degenerate form of other sentient beings, or perhaps a creation of Morgoth, the first Dark Lord.

In Tolkien's lore, Woses are solitary and reclusive, preferring to dwell in the wild, often in forests or desolate regions. They are rarely encountered by the Free Peoples of Middle-earth and are generally feared or misunderstood. Their intelligence is often portrayed as low, though they possess a primal cunning and a deep connection to the natural world. They are known for their strength and ferocity in combat, making them dangerous adversaries.

The Grey Company, a group of Rangers, has an alliance with the Woses in the later stages of the War of the Ring. These particular Woses reside in the Drúadan Forest and are crucial in aiding Aragorn and his men by guiding them through the forest and misleading the enemy. This interaction highlights that while generally hostile or indifferent to outsiders, some Woses can form bonds and display a capacity for loyalty. Their presence adds a layer of ancient mystery and wildness to the landscape of Middle-earth.
