Aragorn

Aragorn II, also called Strider, Estel in his youth, is a central figure in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth writings. A Ranger of the North and the heir of Isildur, he is descended from the Dúnedain and the line of kings of Gondor and Arnor. He is commonly known by the epithet Elessar, meaning Elf-stone in Sindarin, a name given by the Elves, and later bears the surname Telcontar as kingly lineage.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn joins the company to aid Frodo Baggins in the quest to destroy the One Ring. He proves a capable leader and warrior, guiding the Fellowship through peril and fighting in major battles. He wields Andúril, the reforged blade of Narsil, a symbol of his rightful claim to the thrones.

After the defeat of Sauron, Aragorn is crowned King Elessar Telcontar of the Reunited Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor. His reign brings restoration and longer-term peace; his efforts replenish cities, strengthen alliances, and form enduring bonds among the lineages of Men, the Elves, and the Dwarves. He marries Arwen Undómiel, uniting the line of Elves and Men.

Aragorn's legacy lies in his leadership, his healing presence, and his role in restoring the West's kingdoms. He appears in The Lord of the Rings and its appendices, where his life and reign are described.
