These systems typically consist of interlocking panels made from materials like gypsum fiber, cement-bonded particleboard, or calcium sulfate. The panels are laid over a substrate, which can be a subfloor, insulation, or even existing flooring, and are then joined together.

Because there is no wet curing time required, floors can be walked on and further finished almost immediately after assembly.
