Doubleclicked

Doubleclicked is the past tense form of the action commonly described as a double-click. A double-click is a rapid sequence of two consecutive clicks of a pointing device within a brief time interval, used in graphical user interfaces to activate a primary command, open an item, or select a control. The concept originated with early GUI systems and has since become a standard interaction across desktop and web applications. The exact timing that qualifies as a double-click is defined by the operating system and can typically be configured by the user.

In software development and user interface design, handling a double-click varies by platform. In JavaScript, the dblclick event fires when a double-click is completed; in many desktop frameworks there is a specific double-click event (for example, Windows forms’ MouseDoubleClick event; Java Swing’s mouseClicked with a click count of 2). Web design often relies on single-click actions for basic interactions and provides keyboard equivalents such as Enter or Space to activate items to support accessibility.

Common uses of double-click actions include opening files or folders, launching applications, or entering edit mode for a selected item. They are distinct from single-click actions, which typically focus or select items, and from right-click context menus. Accessibility considerations emphasize providing keyboard alternatives and ensuring essential functions remain operable for users with motor or vision impairments.
