Dichtsystems

A Dichtsystem is a sealing arrangement designed to prevent the escape of fluids or gases from a mechanical or hydraulic system. It typically consists of a series of seals, gaskets, and housing components that work together to maintain pressure integrity and protect internal parts from contamination and wear.

In many industrial settings, the Dichtsystem surrounds moving components such as pistons, shafts, and rotating impellers. Common seal types include dynamic seals, which accommodate relative motion, and static seals, which are fixed in position. Compression seals rely on a pressure differential to maintain contact, while lip seals use a flexible flap to block leakage. Hybrid designs may combine elastomeric and metallic elements to balance wear resistance with chemical compatibility.

Material selection is critical; elastomers such as nitrile, EPDM, and polyurethane are favored for their flexibility and chemical resistance, while silicone and fluorosilicone are used for high temperature or aggressive chemical environments. Metal seals, often steel or brass, are chosen for extreme pressure or high‑speed applications, and composites or ceramics can be employed where extreme hardness or temperature is required.

Design engineers must consider factors such as pressure rating, temperature range, fluid chemistry, rotational speed, and required service life. Standards from ISO, DIN, and ANSI provide guidance on testing, sizing, and installation practices. Routine inspection and timely replacement of wear‑prone components are essential for maintaining performance and preventing equipment downtime.

Dichtsystems are integral to pumps, compressors, turbines, and various mechanical assemblies across industries such as oil and gas, automotive, and power generation. Their proper selection and maintenance directly affect operational reliability, safety, and overall system efficiency.
