Desmodillus

Desmodillus is a genus of small rodent in the family Muridae, subfamily Gerbillinae. The genus contains a single described species, Desmodillus auricularis. It belongs to the group of rodents commonly referred to as gerbils and is adapted to dry, open habitats in southern Africa.

Distribution and habitat

Desmodillus auricularis is found in arid and semi-arid regions of southern Africa, including deserts, savannas, and scrublands with sandy or stony soils. It is typically associated with areas where vegetation is sparse and seasonal rains create brief periods of resource abundance.
