DMLSfabricering

DMLSfabricering, short for Direct Metal Laser Sintering, is an additive manufacturing process used to create metal parts. It falls under the umbrella of powder bed fusion technologies. In DMLSfabricering, a high-power laser selectively fuses fine metal powder particles together, layer by layer, based on a digital 3D model.

The process begins with a thin layer of metal powder spread evenly across a build platform. The laser then scans the cross-section of the desired part, melting and fusing the powder particles where the laser beam hits. Once a layer is complete, the build platform lowers slightly, a new layer of powder is applied, and the laser sinters the next cross-section. This process repeats until the entire part is built.

DMLSfabricering is capable of producing complex geometries, including intricate internal structures, that are often impossible or very difficult to achieve with traditional manufacturing methods. This makes it ideal for applications requiring high precision, strength, and optimized designs, such as in the aerospace, automotive, medical, and tooling industries. Materials commonly used include aluminum alloys, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and tool steels. Post-processing typically involves removing excess powder, heat treatment, and surface finishing.
