DESIIndex

DESIIndex is a composite index intended to measure national performance in the digital economy and society. It aggregates a set of indicators to provide a cross-country benchmark of how effectively countries develop and use digital technologies in everyday life and economic activity. The index is not an official statistical measure, but a policy and research instrument used to compare progress and inform decision making.

The structure of DESIIndex typically covers five domains: connectivity and infrastructure; human capital and digital skills; digital use by individuals; digitization of businesses; and digital public services. Each domain is scored on a 0 to 100 scale, with domain scores combined using a transparent weighting scheme to yield an overall score and modular sub-scores.

Data for DESIIndex come from publicly available sources, including national statistics offices and international organizations such as ITU, the World Bank, OECD, and regional statistical agencies. Where data are missing, standard imputation and interpolation methods may be applied. Methodology notes accompany published results to describe indicator definitions, data sources, weighting, and revision policy.

Applications of DESIIndex include benchmarking national performance, monitoring policy impact, and informing investment and regulatory priorities. Critics note that results can be sensitive to the chosen indicator set and weights, and that data lags can affect timeliness and comparability across countries.

DESIIndex remains a subject of academic and policy debate as digital ecosystems evolve, and various publishers may offer slightly different implementations with the same underlying conceptual framework.
