The Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST-II), commonly referred to as Denver II or DDST II, is a developmental screening instrument used to identify young children who may have developmental delays. It serves as a screening tool rather than a diagnostic instrument and is widely employed by pediatricians, family clinicians, and early intervention programs.

The DDST-II screens four domains: personal-social, fine motor-adaptive, language, and gross motor. It is designed for children from birth through 6 years of age. The test consists of 125 items arranged in age-graded sequences. Administrators present tasks in a standardized order and record whether the child passes, fails, refuses, or does not have the opportunity to perform each item.

Scoring and interpretation generate a developmental profile that can indicate normal development or potential delays. A pattern of several items not meeting the expected age level, particularly across multiple domains, may trigger a recommendation for further evaluation or referral for comprehensive assessment. Because it is a screening tool, the DDST-II is intended to signal possible concern rather than provide a diagnosis.

Use and limitations: The DDST-II is commonly used in primary care, clinics, daycare settings, and outreach programs to monitor early development. Proper administration and interpretation require training; results can be influenced by cultural, linguistic, and environmental factors.
