Cursivestyle is a typographic concept referring to text presentation that imitates cursive handwriting. In practice, it is most often realized through italic or script fonts that feature flowing, connected letterforms. The term is sometimes used broadly to describe any design that seeks a handwritten or calligraphic appearance, but in typographic discourse it is distinguished from generic italic by its stronger aim to resemble joined, fluid handwriting rather than a simple slant.

Common characteristics include connected strokes, ligatures, and flourishes, especially in script fonts. Cursivestyle contrasts with italic type, which preserves the same letter shapes as the regular face but slants to the right. True cursive fonts mimic natural handwriting, sometimes with inconsistent baselines and varied letter widths. In digital typography, cursive can be produced by scripts or by using a generic 'cursive' or 'handwriting' font family.

Historically, italic type emerged in the 16th century to convey emphasis and save space; it inspired later script-type faces intended to resemble handwriting. The modern concept of cursive in digital typography grew with the availability of fonts designed to mimic handwriting and with CSS support for font-style: italic and the font-family values 'cursive' or 'serif-script'.
