Conditionsmaterial is a term used in materials science to describe materials whose properties or structure are governed by external conditions such as temperature, pressure, humidity, chemical environment, or applied fields.

These materials exhibit state-dependent behavior, with properties that can change reversibly or irreversibly in response to stimuli. Common effects include color changes, variations in stiffness or conductivity, and phase transitions. Classes often cited under this concept include stimuli-responsive polymers, hydrogels, shape memory alloys, and piezoelectric or ferroelectric ceramics.

Characterization relies on controlled conditioning experiments in which samples are exposed to defined sequences of environmental states while properties are measured.
