CommunityOrganisationen are organized groups that mobilize residents and resources to improve local well-being, inclusion, and participation. They typically operate outside formal government structures but may collaborate with public agencies, schools, and businesses. While the term can refer to a wide range of entities, at their core they seek to address shared concerns such as neighbourhood safety, cultural life, education, health, and social services.

Most CommunityOrganisationen are non-profit and voluntary in nature. They may be formal associations, foundations, charities, cooperatives, or informal networks. Governance commonly involves a membership, a board of directors or trustees, an elected chair, and paid or volunteer staff. Funding comes from membership dues, donations, grants, sponsorships, and revenue from activities or services. In many jurisdictions they are registered and subject to reporting and tax rules for non-profits.

Activities vary widely: running community centers, organizing cultural events, providing mentoring or tutoring, coordinating mutual aid or disaster response, advocating for local policy changes, or supporting marginalized groups. Impact is often measured in outputs (number of participants, services delivered) and outcomes (improved access, social inclusion, or resilience), though attribution can be challenging.

Challenges include sustainable funding, governance transparency, volunteer recruitment, and cooperation with public institutions. Despite these, CommunityOrganisationen play a key role in civil society by enabling bottom-up problem solving, enabling civic participation, and complementing government services.
