Colorcontrol is a broad term used to describe methods, systems, and tools that regulate and standardize color reproduction across devices and media. It encompasses processes, hardware, and software that aim to achieve consistent color appearance in digital imaging, printing, displays, and lighting.

In digital imaging, color control relies on color management systems and ICC profiles that map colors between color spaces such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, and ProPhoto RGB. Calibration devices like colorimeters and spectrophotometers measure device output to create accurate profiles. Soft proofing allows previewing color on a monitor before printing, reducing surprises during production.

In printing and publishing, color control ensures consistency between scanners, monitors, printers, and substrates. ICC profiles for each device pair, alongside printer driver settings and color-managed workflows, guide color conversion. Profiling seeks predictable results under defined viewing conditions, aiding cross-device color fidelity.

In displays and lighting, color control involves adjusting gamma, white point, brightness, and color gamut. LED color mixing, color temperature adjustments, and dynamic LUTs enable accurate and consistent rendering. In film and video, color grading and LUT-based control shape the final look while aiming to preserve color fidelity within broadcast standards.

Challenges include device variability, viewing conditions, and perceptual differences. Standards such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Rec. 709/2020 provide frameworks, but real-world color can drift. The term colorcontrol may also appear as a brand name or feature label in software and hardware offered by various vendors.
