CoilIDs

CoilID is a unique identifier assigned to a coil—whether wire coils, metal coils, or coil-shaped components—used across manufacturing, logistics, and inventory systems to enable traceability and data integration. A CoilID links a physical coil to a digital record containing production, quality, and transactional information throughout its lifecycle.

Formats vary; there is no single standard. CoilIDs are commonly alphanumeric codes that may encode attributes such as coil type, material, gauge or diameter, length, batch, and production date. Some organizations use human-readable prefixes (for example COIL-12345), while others rely on system-generated UUIDs or database keys. Barcodes or RFID tags are often attached to the coil or its packaging to allow rapid scanning.

Applications include raw-material management in metal and wire industries, wound components in electronics, and refrigerant or heat-exchanger coils in HVAC. In each case, the CoilID supports inventory control, order fulfillment, quality assurance, recall management, and analytics.

Data fields typically stored with a CoilID include coil_id, material, diameter (or gauge), length, weight, batch_id, production_date, status, location, and supplier or manufacturer. Data integrity and access control are important, as CoilIDs support regulatory compliance and traceability.

In modern enterprise ecosystems, CoilIDs are integrated into ERP, MES, and warehouse management systems, often linked to barcodes or RFID tags to improve scanning accuracy and reduce manual entry.
