Climatefriendliness is a term used to describe the extent to which a product, service, policy, or organization minimizes its contribution to climate change and enhances resilience to its effects. It generally emphasizes low greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, the use of renewable energy, and sustainable materials, as well as mindful landscape and water management across the life cycle.

Practically, climatefriendliness is assessed through evidence-based methods such as lifecycle assessment and carbon accounting, including Scope 1-3 emissions, energy intensity, and resource use. Respect for climate considerations is often integrated into design choices, supply chains, production processes, and end-of-life management. Trials include electrification, circular economy approaches, and investments in clean technologies and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Industry sectors commonly described as pursuing climatefriendliness include construction with low-emission materials, transportation with efficient and low-carbon fleets, and food systems that reduce methane and optimize resource use. Governments may promote climatefriendliness through regulations, incentives, and procurement standards aimed at reducing emissions and increasing adaptation capacity.

Critiques note that the term can be vague and susceptible to greenwashing if not supported by transparent metrics and independent verification. A robust assessment requires clear definitions, standardized metrics, and consideration of trade-offs, regional differences, and social impacts. Climatefriendliness is often discussed as part of broader sustainability and decarbonization agendas.
