Feature articles emphasize narrative and context, while investigative pieces dig into evidence and often reveal new information. Scholarly articles, by contrast, present research findings and usually include an abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and references. Online articles may incorporate hyperlinks, images, and multimedia elements.

Articles are produced by authors and editors, with varying levels of review depending on genre. News outlets often employ fact-checking and editorial oversight; academic articles typically undergo peer review and formal citation practices. Distribution occurs through print editions, news websites, or journals, and discoverability is enhanced by indexing services, search engines, and, in academia, DOIs and bibliographic databases.

Ethical considerations include accuracy, attribution, avoiding plagiarism, transparency about sources, and preserving readers' privacy.
