Cheekpieces

Cheekpieces are the side straps of a horse bridle that run from the crownpiece to the bit, one on each side of the horse’s face. They form part of the headstall and help position the bit in the mouth, transferring rein and mouth pressure to the horse’s response. Each cheekpiece is adjustable in length, and keeping equal length on both sides is essential for even rein action and comfortable bit placement. They are typically made of leather and fastened with buckles, though some bridles use nylon or other synthetics.
