CenterOffset

CenterOffset is a term used in graphics, user interface design, and charting to describe a displacement applied to the center position of an element. It is typically represented as a two-dimensional vector with x and y components, such as (dx, dy). The offset shifts where the element is drawn relative to its natural center, effectively altering its anchor point without changing the object's geometry.

In practice, centerOffset controls where rotations, alignments, or overlays occur. For example, in canvas or SVG rendering, applying a centerOffset before a rotation centers the transformation around a point offset from the geometric center. In charting libraries that render donuts or pies, centerOffset can move the chart’s center or the label area to make room for legends or annotations. In mapping and UI widgets, it is used to align markers, popups, or badges with icons of varying sizes so that visual centering appears correct.

Considerations include the coordinate system orientation (many 2D systems have y increasing downward), the units (usually pixels), and whether the API interprets the offset in screen space or the element’s local space.
