CMV Übertragung refers to the transmission of Cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV is a common virus, part of the herpesvirus family, that infects most people at some point in their lives. The virus is typically spread through direct contact with infected body fluids, such as saliva, urine, blood, semen, and breast milk.

Transmission most commonly occurs through close personal contact, especially with saliva or urine from an infected child. This is why young children are a significant source of CMV spread in daycare settings and households. Adults can also transmit CMV through sexual contact, as well as through blood transfusions or organ transplantation. Pregnant women who are infected can transmit the virus to their babies during pregnancy, labor, or breastfeeding.

For most healthy individuals, CMV infection is asymptomatic or causes mild flu-like symptoms, such as fever, fatigue, and swollen glands. The virus then remains dormant in the body, becoming reactivated later in life. However, CMV can cause serious health problems in individuals with weakened immune systems, including those with HIV/AIDS, organ transplant recipients, or individuals undergoing chemotherapy. In newborns, congenital CMV infection can lead to hearing loss, vision impairment, developmental delays, and other serious complications. Prevention strategies focus on good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing, especially after contact with children's bodily fluids.
