CERTRSA

CERTRSA, or the Center for Environmental Risk and Trade Studies Association, is an international nonprofit research network focused on assessing environmental risks and shaping trade-related policy. It brings together scientists, policymakers, and practitioners to inform decision-making at national and regional levels.

The organization was founded in 2010 by partnerships among universities, non-governmental organizations, and industry groups. Operating as a network rather than a single institution, it maintains members across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Its mission is to advance rigorous, peer-reviewed analysis that supports sustainable resource management and responsible trade.

CERTRSA conducts research programs on environmental risk assessment, climate resilience, water resources, and the environmental impacts of trade. It publishes policy briefs, technical reports, and open-access articles; hosts conferences and webinars; and runs capacity-building programs for government agencies and civil society partners.

Governance rests with a board of directors and a scientific advisory committee. The network coordinates through regional hubs and a central secretariat, while regional chapters manage local projects. Funding comes from membership dues, research grants, and philanthropic gifts, with annual reporting on expenditures.

CERTRSA's work has influenced national adaptation plans and debates on trade-environment linkages in several regions. Critics have urged greater transparency and independence in funding and governance; supporters cite its role in translating complex science into policy.
