Boliginters, also known as "home inspectors" in English, are professionals who assess the condition of residential properties before they are sold or purchased. Their primary role is to provide an unbiased evaluation of a home’s structural integrity, systems, and potential issues, helping buyers make informed decisions. In Norway, the term *boliginteressert* (literally "home-interested") is sometimes used colloquially to describe individuals who are actively researching or considering buying a property, though *boliginteressert* is not a formal professional title.

A certified boliginter is typically licensed or certified through organizations like the Norwegian Association of Home Inspectors (*Norsk Forening for Boliginspektører*). Their inspections cover key areas such as the foundation, roof, electrical and plumbing systems, insulation, ventilation, and signs of moisture or mold. They may also assess safety hazards, such as asbestos or carbon monoxide risks, though some specialized tests require additional expertise.

The demand for boliginters has grown alongside Norway’s housing market, particularly in urban areas like Oslo and Bergen, where property prices are high, and buyers seek transparency before committing to a purchase. Their reports are often used in negotiations to renegotiate prices or request repairs. While not legally required in Norway, their services are widely recommended to avoid costly surprises after a sale.

Boliginters operate independently, though some may collaborate with real estate agents or lenders. Their fees vary based on property size and complexity, typically ranging from a few thousand to over ten thousand Norwegian kroner. The profession emphasizes objectivity, and inspectors are expected to disclose any conflicts of interest or limitations in their assessments.
