Bestillingsmenger

Bestillingsmenger, commonly written bestillingsmengde in Norwegian, is a term in inventory management that refers to the quantity of units ordered in each replenishment, or order, cycle. It is a central decision variable in balancing ordering costs with holding costs and service level targets. The concept is widely applied in procurement, manufacturing, retail, and logistics to optimize stock levels and minimize total costs.

In classical inventory theory, the optimal order quantity is often determined using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model. The EOQ formula estimates the quantity that minimizes the sum of annual ordering costs and annual holding costs: EOQ = sqrt(2DS/H), where D is the annual demand, S is the fixed cost per order, and H is the annual holding cost per unit. Variants of the model may incorporate quantity discounts, capacity limits, or varying demand. In practice, organizations may adjust the calculated EOQ to align with supplier constraints, packaging units, or strategic stock considerations.

The chosen bestillingsmengde interacts with other inventory parameters, such as the reorder point and safety stock. The reorder point determines when to place a new order, while the safety stock protects against demand variability and lead-time fluctuations. Together, these elements define a replenishment policy that aims to maintain service levels while controlling costs.
