Bengalurus

Bengalurus is not an official designation but a plural form that may be used to refer to Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, or to its residents. Bengaluru is the city’s current official name; Bangalore remains a commonly encountered historical or international variant.

Geographically, Bengaluru sits on the southern edge of the Deccan Plateau in Karnataka, at about 900 to 1,000 meters above sea level. The city has a moderate climate for its latitude, with relatively mild winters and warm summers, aided by its elevation, numerous parks, and several lakes.

Historically, Bengaluru grew as a royal capital under the Vijayanagar and later the Kingdom of Mysore, and developed into a major administrative and commercial hub during British rule. Today it is governed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and hosts state government offices in the Vidhana Soudha. The city experienced rapid growth in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, driven by the information technology sector.

Economically, Bengaluru is known as a leading information technology and software services center in India, often called the Silicon Valley of India. It hosts multinational tech campuses, numerous startups, and research institutions, contributing to a diverse and multilingual population where Kannada is the official language and English is widely used.

Cultural landmarks include Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Cubbon Park, and Bangalore Palace, complemented by modern transport infrastructure such as Kempegowda International Airport and the Namma Metro. The city offers a mix of traditional Karnataka cuisine and cosmopolitan dining, alongside a vibrant arts scene, making Bengaluru a major urban hub for southern India.
