Bangalore, officially Bengaluru, is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Located in the southern part of the country on the Deccan Plateau, the city sits at an elevation of about 900 meters, giving it a relatively moderate climate by tropical standards.

Historically, Bangalore was founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I and grew as a major administrative and military center under the Kingdom of Mysore before becoming part of British India. In the late 20th century it emerged as a major hub for information technology and research, reshaping its economy and urban landscape.

Economy and institutions: Bangalore is one of India's leading IT and software services hubs, with numerous global and domestic companies operating in technology parks such as Electronic City and Whitefield, and in other business districts.
