Beieren
Beieren, the Dutch name for the German state commonly known in English as Bavaria, is the largest state by area in Germany. It lies in the southeast of the country and borders Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Thuringia and Saxony to the west and north, and shares international borders with the Czech Republic to the east and Austria to the south. The Alps form its southern boundary, and major rivers such as the Danube pass through the region. The capital and largest city is Munich; other large cities include Nuremberg, Augsburg, and Regensburg. The state has roughly 13 million inhabitants.
