Beeldstabilisatoren, also known as image stabilizers, are devices used in photography and videography to reduce the effects of camera shake and movement, resulting in sharper and steadier images. These stabilizers can be integrated into the camera body, lens, or used as handheld accessories. They work by using various technologies such as optical image stabilization (OIS), electronic image stabilization (EIS), or mechanical stabilization to counteract the motion of the camera.

Optical image stabilization involves moving the lens elements within the lens to compensate for camera movement. Electronic image stabilization, on the other hand, uses sensors to detect motion and adjusts the image electronically to stabilize it. Mechanical stabilizers use gyroscopes and motors to physically stabilize the camera or lens.

Beeldstabilisatoren are particularly useful in low-light conditions or when shooting from moving platforms, such as vehicles or boats. They are commonly found in high-end DSLR and mirrorless cameras, as well as in action cameras and smartphones. Some lenses also feature built-in image stabilization to improve image quality.

While image stabilizers significantly enhance image quality, they are not a replacement for a stable shooting platform or proper technique. They are most effective when used in conjunction with a tripod or other stabilizing equipment. Additionally, the effectiveness of image stabilizers can vary depending on the severity of camera movement and the specific technology used.
