Bastionen
Bastionen, the German term for bastions, are projecting units of fortifications that extend outward from the main enceinte. Each bastion forms a salient angle and typically has two outer faces that meet at a point, with a parapet and a shoulder. The design is meant to provide defenders with sightlines and fire along two or more curtain walls, reducing dead zones and enabling enfilading fire on attackers.
