Banery

Banery are signs or advertising surfaces made of flexible materials, designed to display messages in public or private spaces. They can be hung from walls or ceilings, mounted on frames, placed on stands, or used as flags. Banery are used for advertising, event promotion, branding, public information, or political messaging. They fall into two broad categories: physical banners and digital banners displayed on the internet.

The term baner, with the plural banery in Polish, derives from the German Banner or the French bannière, reflecting historical use of banners as heraldic and signaling devices.

Historically, banners were used as visibility and identification symbols in medieval and early modern times. Modern physical banners became widely produced with advances in printing technologies in the 19th and 20th centuries, while digital banners appeared with the rise of the internet in the 1990s.

Physical banners use materials such as vinyl, PVC, fabric (often polyester), or mesh. They may be printed with large-format methods (digital printing, dye-sublimation, or screen printing) and equipped with grommets, hems, and poles for mounting. Indoor banners tend to be lighter; outdoor banners require weather resistance and wind-permeable mesh variants.

Digital banners refer to online display ads, typically static or animated formats in GIF, JPG, or HTML5. Common online sizes include 300x250, 728x90, and 160x600, though formats are optimized for different devices.

Applications include shopfront signage, event and sponsorship displays, construction-site notices, stadium branding, and political campaigns. Banery remain a versatile, cost-effective means of visual communication in both physical and digital environments.
