Balzgesang
Balzgesang, literally “courtship song,” is a term used in German-language ethnomusicology and folklore to denote vocal performances centered on courtship and romantic display. The word combines Balz (courtship or mating display) and Gesang (song). In scholarly usage, Balzgesang encompasses a spectrum of vocal practices designed to accompany courtship, including serenades, love-themed ballads, and ritual songs performed at dating, betrothal, or wedding ceremonies; in some regional traditions it may mark seasonal courtship rites in rural communities.
