Avancoj

Avancoj is a fictional town and municipality in the coastal country of Valoria, commonly used in worldbuilding and encyclopedic exercises. It lies in the Varin district along the Avan River and serves as a regional administrative and market center.

The town covers about 42 square kilometers and sits at a modest elevation near fertile river valleys, with wooded hills to the north and an extensive waterfront to the south.

Avancoj originated as a milling hamlet in the 17th century, grew through river trade, and achieved municipal status in 1852. The 20th century saw diversification into agriculture, woodworking, and, more recently, tourism.

As of 2023, the municipality had an estimated population of 8,200. The official language is Valorian, with a small minority speaking Lirian. It is governed by a mayor and an 11-member city council.

The economy combines farming (fruits and grains), light manufacturing, and services. Transportation includes a regional road network, a short railway line, a marina, and regular bus services; the nearest international airport is in the national capital, about 60 kilometers away.

Cultural life centers on the Harvest Festival and local crafts cooperatives. The Avancoj Municipal School District operates several primary schools and a secondary school, with a university extension campus in nearby cities.

Notable landmarks include the Old Mill, Riverfront Park, and the Avan Bridge, which connects the town to neighboring settlements.
