Arpeggiovoering

An arpeggiovoering is a variation on a standard arpeggio, distinguished by a specific voice-leading technique. While a traditional arpeggio simply plays the notes of a chord in succession, an arpeggiovoering involves a more deliberate and independent movement of each melodic voice within the broken chord pattern.

This technique is often applied to sustain interest and create a richer, more contrapuntal texture in instrumental music, particularly on keyboards or other polyphonic instruments. The goal is to imply multiple independent lines rather than a single harmonic gesture. For example, instead of merely ascending through a triad, an arpeggiovoering might have the top voice move stepwise while the inner voices follow distinct paths, creating a sense of dialogue.
