Armaturenbody

Armaturenbody is not a standardized term in German technical writing. It is sometimes used as a variant or mistaken combination referring to the housing or body of an instrument cluster, panel, or dashboard in vehicles and machinery. In this sense, the Armaturenbody denotes the structural enclosure that carries gauges, digital displays, indicator lamps, and control elements within an instrument panel.

Functions and scope

The Armaturenbody provides mounting points and interfaces for sensors, wiring, and electronics; it protects delicate components from dust, moisture, and impact; and it contributes to ergonomics and visibility. It is often integrated with other dashboard components such as HVAC ducts, the steering column, and trim elements.

Construction and materials

Common materials include rigid plastics such as ABS or polycarbonate, sometimes with metal reinforcement for rigidity. Surfaces may be finished with textures, coatings, or soft-touch laminates. The design must balance aesthetics, durability, heat resistance, and ease of assembly, while meeting automotive safety and durability requirements.

Armaturenbody parts are typically produced through injection molding for plastic housings, with metal brackets or frames produced by stamping or machining where higher rigidity is needed. Assembly involves attaching instrument clusters, switches, lighting, and wiring, with tight tolerances to ensure proper alignment of gauges and displays.

Variations and usage

In standard automotive terminology the dash as a whole is usually called the Armaturenbrett. The Armaturenbody, when used, refers specifically to the housing portion of the instrument cluster or dashboard assembly, and can also describe similar housings in industrial equipment or laboratory devices.
