Antistaatilisi, also known as anti-statism or anti-statism theory, refers to a broad philosophical and political stance that opposes the existence or expansion of the state. This perspective critiques the state as an inherently coercive institution that undermines individual liberty, economic freedom, and social harmony. Advocates of antistaatilisi argue that the state’s monopoly on violence, taxation, and regulation often leads to inefficiency, corruption, and the suppression of natural human cooperation.

Historically, antistaatilisi ideas have been associated with anarchist movements, libertarianism, and certain strains of classical liberalism. Thinkers such as Ludwig von Mises, Murray Rothbard, and Pierre-Joseph Proudhon have contributed to this discourse by advocating for voluntary associations, private governance, and minimal or non-existent state intervention. Critics of the state often point to examples of stateless societies, such as indigenous communities or historical examples like the Free Cities of the Hanseatic League, where voluntary cooperation thrived without centralized authority.

Practical applications of antistaatilisi include proposals for decentralized governance, privatization of public services, and the use of alternative dispute resolution systems outside of traditional legal frameworks. Some antistaatilisi proponents also explore the feasibility of secessionist movements or the creation of free cities—territories governed by voluntary consent rather than coercive law.

While antistaatilisi remains a minority view in mainstream politics, its influence persists in debates over taxation, law enforcement, and social welfare.
