Anløpningsprosess

Anløpningsprosess is a term used in metallurgy and materials science to describe a process of controlled oxidation of a metal surface. This process is typically carried out at elevated temperatures, often in the presence of specific atmospheric conditions, to form a thin, protective oxide layer. The purpose of this oxide layer can vary, including enhancing corrosion resistance, improving wear properties, or providing a decorative finish.

The anløpningsprosess involves heating the metal object to a temperature range where the desired oxide forms. The specific temperature and the presence of oxygen or other reactive gases are critical factors that determine the type and thickness of the oxide layer. For example, heating steel in an oxygen-rich atmosphere can lead to the formation of iron oxides, commonly referred to as bluing or tempering colors. These colors, ranging from pale straw to deep blue, are indicative of the oxide layer thickness and the corresponding temperature reached.
