Anestesiamenetelmiä refers to the various techniques and methods used to induce anesthesia. Anesthesia is a state of controlled temporary loss of sensation or awareness that is induced for medical purposes. General anesthesia causes a reversible loss of consciousness and sensation throughout the body. It is typically administered through intravenous injection or inhalation of anesthetic gases. Patients under general anesthesia require mechanical ventilation to assist with breathing. This method is commonly used for major surgical procedures.

Regional anesthesia involves blocking sensation in a larger area of the body, such as a limb or the lower half of the body. It is achieved by injecting anesthetic agents near specific nerves or nerve bundles. Epidural and spinal anesthesia are common examples of regional anesthesia, often used during childbirth or lower limb surgeries. The patient remains conscious but is unable to feel pain in the targeted region.

Local anesthesia involves numbing a small, specific area of the body. It is usually administered by injecting a local anesthetic directly into the tissue to be operated on. This method is suitable for minor procedures like dental work or the removal of small skin lesions, where only a localized area needs to be desensitized. The patient is fully awake and aware during the procedure. The choice of anesthetic method depends on the type of procedure, the patient's medical history, and the desired level of pain control and consciousness.
