Anaboleandrogene

Anaboleandrogene refers to anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), a class of synthetic derivatives of testosterone designed to promote both anabolic (tissue-building) and androgenic (masculinizing) effects. They are used medically to treat testosterone deficiency, certain wasting conditions, severe osteoporosis, and some muscle- or weight-loss syndromes, but they are also widely misused for performance enhancement and cosmetic change.

Mechanism and effects are mediated by binding to androgen receptors in muscle, bone, liver, and other tissues. This receptor activation alters gene expression to increase protein synthesis and nitrogen retention, leading to increased lean mass, strength, and recovery in some cases. The magnitude and profile of effects depend on the specific compound, dose, route of administration, and individual factors.

Medical use is typically conducted under oversight with specific formulations and dosing guidelines. Non-medical use often involves higher, repeated doses or cycling that can elevate risk. Administration routes include oral, injectable, and transdermal forms, with pharmacokinetics varying by compound.

Adverse effects are broad and can be serious. Liver toxicity is a concern with certain oral forms, along with lipid abnormalities, hypertension, and cardiovascular risk. Androgenic effects include acne, oily skin, and virilization in women and transgender individuals; in men, possible suppression of natural testosterone production leading to testicular atrophy and infertility. In youths, there is a risk of premature closure of growth plates. Mood changes, aggression, and dependence have also been reported. Long-term use can disrupt hormonal balance and metabolic health.

Legal status varies by country. In many jurisdictions, AAS are controlled substances requiring medical prescription, and non-medical use, especially in sports, is prohibited by anti-doping rules.
