Aloituksessa

The word is commonly used in both spoken and written Finnish, especially in descriptive writing, reports, minutes, and news reporting to locate events in their initial phase.

The term is formed from the base aloitus (start, initiation) with the inessive suffix -ssa, which marks location or state “in” or “during.” Because Finnish nouns are inflected for case, aloitus can take many forms, including aloitukseni (my opening), aloituksensa (its opening), and aloituksessa (in the opening). Context often clarifies whether the meaning is “at the start of” or “during the opening.”
