Allergikud, or allergies, refer to the immune system’s abnormal response to typically harmless substances known as allergens. These reactions occur when the body mistakenly identifies an allergen—such as pollen, dust mites, certain foods, or pet dander—as a threat, triggering an inflammatory response. Common symptoms include sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, skin rashes, or in severe cases, anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction that requires immediate medical attention.

Allergies can develop at any age, though they often appear in childhood. Genetic predisposition plays a significant role, as individuals with a family history of allergies are more likely to experience them. Environmental factors, such as exposure to allergens or changes in diet, may also contribute to their development. Types of allergies include seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), food allergies, drug allergies, and allergic asthma, among others.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history review, physical examination, and allergy testing, such as skin prick tests or blood tests to measure immune responses. Treatment focuses on avoiding allergens, managing symptoms with medications like antihistamines or corticosteroids, and, in severe cases, immunotherapy (allergy shots) to gradually reduce sensitivity. Lifestyle adjustments, such as improving indoor air quality or modifying diets, can also help alleviate symptoms.

While allergies are not curable, their impact can often be effectively managed with proper care and medical guidance. Public awareness and early intervention are key to reducing their effects on daily life and overall health.
