Aivotärähdyksiin

Aivotärähdyksiin refers to concussions, which are a type of traumatic brain injury. A concussion occurs when the brain is shaken or jolted within the skull, typically caused by a blow to the head or a violent shaking of the head and body. This sudden movement can cause the brain to bounce against the inside of the skull, stretching and damaging brain cells.

The symptoms of a concussion can vary widely and may not always be immediately apparent. Common signs include headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light or sound. Individuals may also experience memory problems, difficulty concentrating, changes in mood or behavior, and a feeling of being "foggy." Some people may lose consciousness, but this is not a requirement for a concussion to have occurred.

Diagnosis of a concussion is usually based on a person's symptoms and a neurological examination. There is no specific imaging test that can definitively diagnose a concussion, although imaging such as CT scans or MRIs may be used to rule out more severe injuries like bleeding in the brain.

Treatment for a concussion primarily involves rest, both physical and cognitive. This means avoiding activities that require significant mental effort or physical exertion until symptoms improve. Gradually returning to normal activities is recommended, with a slow and monitored reintroduction to schoolwork, sports, or other demanding tasks. Most concussions resolve within a few weeks, but some individuals may experience persistent symptoms. Prompt medical attention is important for anyone suspected of having a concussion to ensure proper diagnosis and management.
