Aiolinimelläs is a term that has been used in a handful of regional Finnish folklore collections to describe a small, elusive creature said to inhabit the mossy valleys of northern Lapland. The word itself is believed to derive from the combination of the older Finnish root “aioli”, meaning “moss”, with the diminutive “-imelläs”, a suffix sometimes applied to mythical beings.
