Adventfjordens

Adventfjorden is a 11-kilometer-long fjord located on the west coast of Spitsbergen, an island in the Svalbard archipelago of Norway. It is situated in the administrative region of Nordenskiöld Land. The fjord is an arm of Isfjorden, Svalbard's largest fjord. Adventfjorden is approximately 3-10 kilometers wide.

The Advent river flows into the fjord from the east. The settlement of Longyearbyen, the administrative center and largest settlement of Svalbard, is located on the northern shore of Adventfjorden. Several glaciers calve into the fjord, including Longyearbreen and Larsbreen.

The fjord is known for its scenic beauty, with steep mountains rising from its shores. The waters of Adventfjorden are often filled with icebergs, especially during the spring and summer months when glaciers calve. Wildlife in and around the fjord includes seals, various seabirds, and the occasional polar bear. The area is popular for tourism, offering activities such as boat tours, hiking, and wildlife watching. Historically, Adventfjorden was an important area for coal mining, with Longyearbyen established to support these operations.
