AcetylLkarnitiini
AcetylLkarnitiini, more commonly known as acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR), is the acetylated form of L-carnitine, a quaternary ammonium compound involved in fatty acid transport into mitochondria and energy production. In contrast to L-carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine can cross the blood-brain barrier more readily, enabling central nervous system effects. In some languages or contexts, the compound is rendered as acetylLkarnitiini.
Biochemical role and pharmacology: ALCAR donates acetyl groups, forming acetyl-CoA, which feeds into the citric acid
Uses and evidence: ALCAR is marketed for aging-related cognitive decline, mood disorders, peripheral neuropathy, and fatigue.
Safety and regulation: ALCAR is generally well tolerated. Reported side effects include gastrointestinal symptoms and, less
