Abscessdrainasje is a medical procedure aimed at removing pus from an abscess, which is a localized collection of pus surrounded by inflamed tissue. The procedure is typically performed by a healthcare professional, such as a doctor or nurse, and can be done in an outpatient setting or as part of a hospital stay.

The primary goal of abscess drainage is to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and prevent the spread of infection. Pus is a thick fluid containing dead white blood cells, bacteria, and tissue debris. If left untreated, an abscess can grow, causing increased pain, fever, and potentially leading to more serious complications like sepsis.

There are several methods for abscess drainage. The most common involves making a small incision in the abscess wall to allow the pus to flow out.
