ARERA

ARERA, the Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Rete e Ambiente, is Italy’s independent regulator for energy, networks and environmental matters. It oversees the sectors of electricity, natural gas, water services and related environmental activities, with the aim of ensuring transparent access to infrastructure, setting fair tariffs, fostering competition, and protecting consumers.

Organization and governance: ARERA is an independent public authority led by a President and a board of commissioners appointed by the government. It operates through directorates and advisory bodies and is financed by fees paid by the regulated sectors, ensuring its financial independence from market participants and political influence.
