AMPbased refers to web content or applications that employ the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) framework to improve loading speed and performance on mobile devices. The term is commonly used by developers, marketers, and content creators to describe sites or pages that have been converted to or built with AMP.

The AMP framework was introduced by Google in 2015 as an effort to accelerate web delivery for users on slow or congested networks. AMP requires the use of a subset of HTML, a restricted set of CSS, and a custom, asynchronous JavaScript library that handles page rendering. The AMP Runtime ensures that pages are parsed and displayed quickly, while an AMP Cache can serve the content from a global network of servers.

Benefits of AMPbased sites include reduced load times, higher rankings in mobile search results, and increased user engagement metrics. For e‑commerce and news publishers, AMP has proven to boost click‑through rates and ad revenue. However, the framework imposes restrictions: custom JavaScript is limited to pre‑approved tags, and developers must adhere to strict validation rules, which can increase development effort.

A variety of tools aid the creation of AMPbased pages, such as the official AMP Project resources, template generators, and server‑side converters. Many leading publishers, including The New York Times, BBC, and The Verge, host AMP versions of their articles. Major content management systems also provide plugins to generate AMP pages automatically.

The AMP ecosystem is evolving. Google has introduced AMPHTML, a dedicated tag for defining the app that serves AMP pages, and has enhanced the AMP Runtime to support more dynamic actions. Despite growing interest, some critics argue that AMP can lock publishers into a single vendor ecosystem and that progressive web apps (PWAs) may offer a more flexible alternative for performance‑critical mobile experiences.
