AEDlaitetta is a term that refers to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device, commonly used in Finland and other Nordic countries. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, such as ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, a process of applying electric therapy to the heart. This electric therapy, or shock, attempts to convert the abnormal heart rhythm back to a normal one.
